Welcome to Anime Rants! As the title suggests, today’s post is a list of my top seven favorite anime characters with blue hair. They are listed in alphabetical order. Please enjoy!
1) Esdeath (Akame ga Kill!)
Esdeath is the surprisingly interesting and well-written antagonist from Akame ga Kill. She is clearly sociopathic/ psychopathic, but also a somewhat sympathetic character interested in the human experience. In addition, Esdeath is extremely attractive with an awesome character design and wicked ice powers.
2) Konata Izumi (Lucky Star)
Konata is the goofy girl-otaku main character of Lucky Star. She is very cute, laidback, sassy, and loves teasing her friends. I strongly identify with this character since she is basically the anime version of me. It’s not every day there is a low-motivation female otaku character who is also suggested to be bisexual.
3) Medaka Kurokami (Medaka Box)
The charismatic titular character of Medaka Box, this young woman is a complete badass. She’s one of the relatively rare female OP characters in fighting anime. Although Medaka has weaknesses and can be prideful or overbearing, she is often viewed as “perfect” by others due to her many talents and successes. Medaka excels academically, in martial arts, and social popularity as well. In addition, she is beautiful, and confident about her attractive body. It’s refreshing to have a female character like this.
4) Nagisa Shiota (Assassination Classroom)
You can probably tell that I overwhelmingly prefer female blue-haired characters, but there’s at least one male who made my list today. Nagisa is one of the main protagonists in Assassination Classroom, and shows promise as a young assassin trying to take down the mysterious monster teaching at his school. I’ve always found Nagisa a very relatable character as well as cute and sometimes really damn impressive.
5) Noriko Sonozaki (Kiznaiver)
Noriko is a mysterious and sometimes antagonistic character from Kiznaiver. She doesn’t always seem very likeable, with her aloofness, expressionless mannerisms and refusal to explain anything to anybody. Her backstory is the main key to understanding why I love this character so much. However, since that’s a big spoiler, you’ll have to find out about Noriko’s past yourself!
6) Sayaka Miki (Madoka Magica)
Next up is Sayaka, an important character in Madoka Magica, and one who I write about very often on this blog. She’s one of my top ten favorite female anime characters. Sayaka is energetic, cheerful, and adventurous, with a strong sense of justice and the desire to protect her friends. When she becomes a magical girl, her main aesthetics are swords, violins, and water.
7) Tokaku Azuma (Akuma no Riddle)
Last but not least, we have Tokaku from Akuma no Riddle. She is an assassin-in-training who falls in love with her first real target, another girl. I don’t just love Tokaku because she’s a lesbian, though. She’s also just an interesting character to me, who despite being very quiet and showing limited outward expression, undergoes a great deal of character development over the course of the anime. Her aesthetic and character design are awesome as well.
Honorable Mention: Rimuru
(Reincarnated as A Slime)
Although this character doesn’t quite make into my top seven, I still wanted to mention Rimuru from Reincarnated As A Slime. This interesting and charming creature can be considered nonbinary, but since he was a male in his previous life, I’ll keep it simple and use “he/him” for the pronouns. A natural leader and quite intelligent, Rimuru is also a fair-minded person who wants the best outcome for everyone. He leads his fellow monsters into forming a country, where they will evolve, prosper, and prove to the world that monsters aren’t necessarily evil.
That’s it for today, so thanks so much for reading! Sayonara until next time! Stay awesome.
